What are SMOOCHIES?

Smoochies are representations of unique identity in our increasingly vast digital world. All Smoochies are born equal. They enter the Smoochies universe with an identical set of core features, but each comes to life in its own unique way. Just as humans express their unique identities through their personality, ethnicity and fashion, Smoochies are made unique through masterful variation of colours, textures and surfaces.

Smoochies were first created in 2016 as a gift from Andreas to his mother. The Smoochies expression presents the entire spectrum of emotions that kisses could evoke, from love, to protection, to comfort.

What is MÆTHERIAL?

Andreas initially designed 36 Smoochies. All 36 Smoochies were 1 of 1 editions that sold out as soon as they were minted into NFTs. This unprecedent demand for Smoochies cemented the Smoochies name in NFT folklore and pop culture.

The MÆTHERIAL collection features 16 new Smoochies created by Andreas Ivan, bringing the Smoochies universe to a total of 52 Smoochies. All Smoochies from the MÆTHERIAL collection come from a particular area within the NFT metaverse and represent their own elemental belongings and origin.

Who is ANDREAS IVAN?

When NFTs exploded into the art scene, Poly Auction Hong Kong and The Authority undertook an expedition to find NFT pioneers. This journey led to the discovery of Andreas Ivan, a true digital-native NFT artist who has experienced a meteoric rise to artistic fame without ever putting pen to canvas.

Andreas is traditionally trained by his mother, a surrealist and expressionist Russian artist. His influences range from Dali for his expression through strokes, all the way to Alexander Calder, Jeff Koons as well as Piet Mondrian for their expression through colours, sizes and silhouettes. In his path to find his own artistic expression, Andreas began to explore ways to integrate his traditional influences with modernism and contemporary arts.

Where can I see SMOOCHIES?

The MÆTHERIAL collection will be exclusively exhibited in Hong Kong by Poly Gallery Hong Kong and The Authority.

How can I buy SMOOCHIES?

The MÆTHERIAL collection will be minted on the Ethereum blockchain as Non-Fungible Tokens (“NFTs”).

Once minted, SMOOCHIES: MÆTHERIAL will be exclusively auctioned online by Poly Auction House and The Authority at their debut NFT auction.

Astro belongs to the space realm but represents more than just the skies above. Astro depicts the hardship of digging into human’s curiosity of finding the unknown. The reflection on Astro’s helmet depicts the final ray of sunlight bouncing off the dark side of the moon, which Astro explored in 2019.

CERAMICA

Ceramica comes from an ancient time. It has withstood the sands of time and lives to tell the story of Ceramics. Ceramics is embodies with the famous White and Blue pigments seen in Fine China and has been given the final regal touch of an invaluable gold. Ceramica represents heritage and legacy.

DOTIE

Dotie is an explorer of nature who, during her expeditions, became one with the world and inhabitants around her. She has since been adopted by the world of beetles as one of their own-she is accompanied by them wherever she goes. Dotie represents the curiosity of exploration and discovery that innate within us all.

FUNKIE

FUNKIE

Funkie is one of the only five Smoochies that are accompanied by creatures that roam our world. On the surface, Funkie is colorful and attractive. However, like in the world of insects, sometimes the most colourful are also the most dangerous or poisonous. Funkie exists to remind us not to judge a book by its cover.

FUSION

Fusion delves into the cult classic film “2001:A Space Odyssey”. Fusion reflects an iconic scene in the film where all the colours beyond the stars are being fused into a one dazzling wormhole. This transformative moment depicted by Fusion symbolizes the moment in which sci-fi changed the cinematography era.

FUTURO

FUTURO

Futuro is an homage to the 1970s golden era of science fiction, when the world was introduced to sci-fi icons such as Woody Allen in Sleeper or C-3PO in George Lucas’ Star Wars. Futuro evokes a sense of nostalgia that we feel for the cinematic era of dystopian and utopian sci-fi films.

JADEN

Jaden is by far one of the most prolific Smoochies. Born just shy of 3,000 B.C., Jaden tells a colourfull life story that includes a whole panorama of historical changes that have taken place throughout her existence. Jaden represents nobility and protection for both the living and the dead.

KAMIA

The word Kamia is derived from phonetic sound of the Russian word “KaMeHb”, which means Rock. The stillness of Kamia symbolizes patience, solidity and stability. Kamia is so still that he has attracted new habitants, namely 2 green lacerates who are seeking solitude in a world full of noise.

LETHAL

Lethal is a Smoochie that lives in a distant future of the crypto-verse. Lethal is a shape shifter: it has minted its eyes through the Ethereum blockchain and uses them to apply laser-focus on the evolution of the NFT art technology – one of the many superpowers used by front soldiers in the NFT revolution.

LIGNUM

LIGNUM

Lignum, derived from the Latin word for wood, is a Smoochie that portrays the stillness and peacefulness of nature. Although the nature surrounding Lignum is peaceful, it is in fact struggling for life: Perched on Lignum’s head is a bird that is ready to build a nest, but there are no trees on the horizon.

MARIKO

MARIKO

Mariko is a love letter to the mother of Andreas Ivan, the creator of Smoochies, Mariko is designed with textures that originate from a 1997 painting called “Cache Cache”, which is an iconic artwork from the long-lasting career of Mariko. Collectors regard this work as her most well-known piece.

PUNKIE

Punkie is a symbol of the “Punk” movement sweeping through the NFT metaverse. In a time where Punks are the most iconic representation of NFT collectibles, Punkie serves to immortalize the collectible period of NFT history. Punkie’s mohawk is a representation of the cultural punk movement in early 1970’s UK.

SIDDHART

SIDDHART

Siddhartha is inspired by the 1922 novel of the same name. This Smoochie, just like the tale, explores Buddhist themes and explores the spiritual journey of self-discovery. Siddharta’s eroded and scratched surface of illustrates the complexity of the path to finding one’s true self.

TERRA

Terra is the oldest Smoochie of all. With a name derived from the Latin word for Earth, Terra originates from a time before any of us came to exit. In this ancient time, the Earth had its own inhabitants, and the hardworking of them all were and still are the ants – these have found their way onto Terra. Terra symbolizes the brutal but silent force of nature at its core.

Velveth is the Queen of Etherea, which a palace built by the numerous miners of the Ethereum blockchain. Valveth symbolizes the power of a new technology that embodies art and beauty. Velveth’s velvet skin signals not only power and wealth, but also warmth and a zest of gallantry.

Wavy’s contrasting but intertwined waves of colors provide commentary on how we often perceive our lives. Is the glass half full or half empty? Is Wavy half black or half white? Here lies not the answer but the process of our thoughts to understand our own beliefs.
